Dulwich Tennis Clubhouse
After a fire destroyed the previous clubhouse, this new facility built to a tight budget prioritises security, wheelchair access and views across the tennis courts.
Conceptually the composite timber external wall cladding is treated as a hard shell, behind which a softer building is partially revealed through openings and indentations in the square plan form, chiefly the entrance and glazed wall onto the tennis courts, which are both protected by integrated metal shutters. Other window openings are concealed behind hinged shutters formed from the timber cladding.
Compact internal planning minimises circulation space, a single wide corridor forming a line of sight from the entrance directly through into the lounge bar and the courts beyond.
A large section of the south elevation glazing slides open to provide access to the grassed area which is used during warmer months for outside events and during tournaments.
