The extension has a glazed roof and is clad in cedar, with slender galvanised steel windows and copings to create a contrast between existing and new elements. The cedar cladding continues into the rear garden to create an additional external 'room'

Internally, extensive structural alterations removed existing load bearing walls almost in their entirety. As a result, the kitchen becomes an informal family room with strong visual and physical links to the garden.

On the top floor, the existing loft space opens up into the studio below with a storage zone accessed from the main space via a ladder. A sliding folding acoustic partition allows the space to be subdivided again when an additional room is required
